I don’t fly first class, and I’m not a travel expert. However, I do travel quite often. I have since learned that convenience is the greatest factor in considerations when flying, whether for business meetings, vacations with families, or the occasional excursion from the norm.
I thus decided to make use of United Airlines Manage Booking facilities when I recently booked a flight instead of just clicking “Check-In” the night before flying and hoping for the best.
And I’m happy I did. Here is a summary of my findings, including what surprised me, what worked, and some things I wish I had known sooner.
Once you have made your booking, you can view, change, or add to your travel with United Airlines’ “Manage Booking” tool on their website and mobile app. During your travel, it’s your virtual command centre.
Especially on the app, the interface is more user-friendly and cleaner than I had anticipated.
Once your reservation is confirmed, you can go to “My Trips” on United’s official website or by opening the mobile app.
Do not worry if you have not purchased a United frequent flyer program membership, MileagePlus.
You are still able to view your reservation using your last name and your confirmation number.
By leaving out United Airlines’ Basic Economy, you can now upgrade any ticket in United without paying any additional charge.
Now you will only have to pay the fare difference between your previous and next chosen flight if you have a change or upgrade.
Restrictions for basic economy: Tickets with extremely low fares are still only eligible for the Manage Booking feature. Usually, you have to wait until check-in or upgrade in order to select a seat.
Offers for upgrades can change: Economy Plus was $39 one minute, and it was $69 the next. Time is of the essence.
No live chat: There is no in-app chat if you run into problems or want to speak with a human. You must give them a call or send a message via their online Help Centre.
If you don’t like the seat assignment on United Airlines, you can modify or upgrade. You can do this at United Airlines’ “Manage Booking”. This is available on both the website and the mobile app.
When you access United Airlines’ “Manage Booking”, you will see the option to upgrade your seat. You can go there and select your seat from the available seats.
However, United Airlines charges a fee for this.
When you go to the “Manage Booking” feature of United Airlines, you will see the option of “Add Special Services”. Go there and click on “request special assistance”, choose the type of Special Assistance you want and make the payment.
Ideally, you should submit all requests at least 48 hours before your flight.
On “Manage Booking”, we have an option called Travel-Ready Centre, by clicking on which international travellers can upload passport details, visas, and health documents.
If you have to reschedule your flight at the last moment due to some reason or you have missed your flight, then you can make changes by going to “Manage Booking” of United Airlines and clicking on Same-Day Flight Change.
If you miss a flight without cancelling or rescheduling, United charges you a no-show fee of $25, which you will have to pay.
